Music stats 2009
Here are my music stats. in 2009 I listened to 5861 songs. The total length of those songs 47 Days 13 Hours 27 Minutes 26 Seconds or 28.01 GB I want to listen more different songs this year. I only listened to about 10% of my collection last year. I feel I need to open that up more. On the Tale
 I have been looking at flickr stats since it has been added to flickr. I was hoping it would tell me something about my photos that I did not already know. I was hoping I would get a good idea where my views come from. I now have a good idea where my views come from. Below are the numbers as long as Flickr shows them: flickr.com 49% images.search.yahoo.com 24% images.google.com 8% google.com 1% Every other site is less that 1%. It would take about 5000 views to get to 1%. At the time is an image of my stats. You can see that big spike. After looking at those big spikes a few time I came to a realization. Those big spikes do not come from a single photo getting a lot of view. It does not come from a lot of photos getting a higher than average number of views. Those spikes from from many photos getting one extra view that day. That just amazes me. I have 8,600 hundred photos on flickr. On an average day I get 1700 views over 700 photos. I will get a spike where I get 9000 views over 5000 photos. It is just like lots of photos go an extra view. I am finding that my photography is defining the long tail. Music collection stats
Over the past couple of years I have been keeping track of the size of my music collection. I do it in a way I could never measure before MP3s. I like it that I know just how many songs I have. In college I had a 3x5 card for each album I owned on it. I used that to keep track of what albums had what songs. It did not give me this kind of data. If I listed to music 18 hours a day the last day to start to get through my whole collection would be Monday, June 4, 2007. If I started tomorrow I would have to listen to my collection 10.6 hours a day listen to it all. Right now there are people shaking their head wondering why I would care about these number. Getting 100 Views
Awhile ago I decided that I wanted to get more of my photos on Flickr 100 views. I have created a set on Flickr for photos that I think deserve 100 views. You can come over to flickr and tell me if you agree or not. I think these photos are better than the amount of attention they have received so far. There are a few different types of rewards on Flickr, Interesting, Views, Favorites, and Comments. Views have always been the reward that has been the most important to me. To me, what I really care about is how many people see my photos. For most people on Flickr the most important reward is Interestingness. It has become a way to measure how good photos are against the Flickrverse of users. It is not that important to me because I do not think I am a great Photographer. When I look at my photos that are some of the most interesting photos, I do not think they are my best photos. I feel that I am rewarded for whimsy most of the time. Here are my photos that rank in the most interesting for specific days. I know that people even go as far as to game the system to get more interesting. I would like to have about 25% of my photos to have 100 views. Right now about 16.5% of my photos have 100 views. I know this is a meaningless measurement. I know there are no meaningful measurements when it comes to my photos. I know that most of my photos I place on flickr are not great. My photos are about what I see in my life more than trying to take great photos. Even if they are not great photos, I still want people to look at them. Here is some random data about my photos.
