Simple Pleasure #3

A lazy walk around the neighborhood

Too often when I walk, all I care about is getting to my destination. Every once in a while, I have to remind myself to look around where I am walking. Walking should be a Zen experience. You should try to be in the moment. You should try to experience each and every step. It is when you walk like that you start to see the world around you. You start to see the wonder you are missing.

Simple Pleasure #2

Hot Chocolate on a cold night

It does not get really cold in San Jose, but last night was a little cold and a little rainy. I stopped to get a cup of hot chocolate and read the Metro. Hot chocolate is just the right speed for the occasional treat. It is not as work-a-day as a cup of coffee. It is not as indulgent as a cup of luxury coffee. It warmed me just enough to enjoy the evening alone.

2002 The year of simple pleasures

I am declaring 2002 the year of simple pleasures. I think that we should all slow down and enjoy simple things.

Simple Pleasure #1

Long, Hot Showers

Every once in a while you need to take a long, hot shower. You just need to let the water wash over you. You should relax and forget about everything except for the experience of the water hitting your body. You need to be in the shower to the point just as your fingers start to prune. It is one of those perfect minutes to live in.
