Need to fight

Tantek twittered this link about relationship fair fighting. It is an interesting idea. I have heard the idea before that some people need to fight to keep a relationship healthy. It is one of those things that works because relationships bring people so close, they need fight to resolve conflicts in a healthy manor. The rules here are pretty good. I wonder if this would also work for close friendships and close business relationships.

On the Tale

Flickrstats

I have been looking at flickr stats since it has been added to flickr. I was hoping it would tell me something about my photos that I did not already know. I was hoping I would get a good idea where my views come from. I now have a good idea where my views come from. Below are the numbers as long as Flickr shows them:

flickr.com 49%
images.search.yahoo.com 24%
images.google.com 8%
google.com 1%

Every other site is less that 1%. It would take about 5000 views to get to 1%.

At the time is an image of my stats. You can see that big spike. After looking at those big spikes a few time I came to a realization. Those big spikes do not come from a single photo getting a lot of view. It does not come from a lot of photos getting a higher than average number of views. Those spikes from from many photos getting one extra view that day. That just amazes me.

I have 8,600 hundred photos on flickr. On an average day I get 1700 views over 700 photos. I will get a spike where I get 9000 views over 5000 photos. It is just like lots of photos go an extra view.

I am finding that my photography is defining the long tail.

cloud computing and data center energy

A few weeks ago I watched a you tube video about cloud computing. From what I can figure, idea of cloud computing is that all of the powerful stuff with computing happens on the server. The idea is a networked world gives more power to the computers. The power is without location. Home computers can be less powerful because the power is all upstream.

A few days ago I read a story of how Energy costs for data centers forecast to leap 13-fold by 2012 If energy costs and energy needs keep on going up, will cloud computing still work? Will increased costs keep this change from happening. One of the problems is that running flash and modern web browsers still need powerful machines. It is not like I can dust off my old windows 98 laptop and make youtube work on it. I am not sure people in this video are thinking about what it cost to run a data center. If they are let me know.

I wish I was an expert on this topic so I would write more about it.

I am becoming an image

Turning 36

I was looking in the referral logs of my blog. Most of my search referrals are currently image searches. I used to get all kinds of crazy searches that would find Sad Salvation because of written content. Now random people find me because of images. I am not sure why that is. Have Google text searches got better? Are people searching for fewer crazy things? Are images really what my blog is about?

I do know that I blog a lot of photos. I have been blogging a ton of photos for a few years now.

I am not sure if this is good for my blog or not. I am not sure how to attract people who have never read it before. I am not sure that people that do not know me would even like reading it. I would love to be a big time blogger, but I am not sure this blog is going that direction.

The State is on Fire

I was sent a map of the current Califorina Fire. If you zoom way out it looks like the whole state is on fire. According to what my parents are seeing on the news on the East Coast, the rest of the country thinks the whole state is on fire. Yes I have smelled the smoke and see the haze, but I have yet to see any fires this year. I am happy about that.

Tag Cloud

cloud

What are the other ways of looking at your blog? Above is a word cloud I got from wordle.net. I think this is pretty interesting. It is taken from the labels/tags from Sad Salvation. You can claim that this is what my blog is about. The labels are incomplete and I am not sure my blog is about anything. It still gives me something to think about. If I ever finish labeling all my old blog entries I will have to look at this again.

I found this on Zeigen.

Lego Land

Maker Faire: Lego Land

I am really jealous of the guys at gizmodo because of their lego land trip. This is a must read for any Lego fan. You have to read the question and answer and watch the trip to the vault. This is a very nice series.
