Travel Notes 1/4/03

Going back

It feels good to be going back to San Jose. I am not sure if it is good to be going there or if it is good to be going home. Those are two different ideas. I want to go back to my place. I want to go back to the life I have made for myself. I want to go back to having more control. Being happy to go back means that I have taken the time to make San Jose more of a home for myself. That is a good thing.

  • I really spend this whole day going back to San Jose.
  • Got up early to go to the airport. It looked like it was going to go all wrong for a moment, but it worked out find in the end.
  • Had lunch with Alice, Dot, and Kathy.
  • Had to take off my shoes at airport security, but I got through it quickly.
  • Took a prop Jet to Dullas (DC)
  • Was in the air for more then 7 hours today.

    Travel Notes 1/3/03

I had nothing planned for today, but I did a lot.

  • Hung out with Charlie and Ruth before Lunch. Spent an hour over there.
  • Had lunch with Dad.
  • took a nap in the afternoon
  • Had dinner with Mom, Dad, and Kathy.
  • Ruth, Joe and Charlie came over for a little while after dinner.
  • Mom, Dad, Kathy, and I played pinnucle.
  • Packed my bags.
  • Made my sisters a CD of all the pictures I took while I was here. I included most of the Pictures on my laptop. I tried to take a picture of everyone I saw on this trip. I think I did a pretty good job. I think I have already used my new camera more in two months then my old camera in two years. If not, I have already got down to $1 per picture.
  • Watched the Second half of the Feastival Bowl. Ohio State won in Overtime.

    Travel Notes 1/2/03

  • Saw Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers yesterday
  • I had a dream about falling in love.
  • Lunch with Aaron. Aaron does not know where is life is going. He is going to have to figure it out soon or the mistakes will become worse. It was an odd lunch, I should call him when I get back to San Jose.
  • Dreamt about being on a cruise and seeing Lori Mackin.
  • Sean Called me to pick up a Memory Stick for him. He needed a specific type and he was not confident that anyone else would pick it up for him. I purchased it for him and I mailed it today. He can not get them in Germany.
  • Hung out with Charlie and Ruth
  • Went to Play pool with Dave, Gerry, and John Coyle. After three really bad games of pool we went to Thunderbird lanes and had a couple of pitchers there. We went to Big Heads Pub once the bowling alley closed. If I hung out with John all the time, I would get caught for drunk driving.

    Travel Notes 12/30/02

    Family Time

Dot and I played with Charlie. First we played with his Fisher Price Little People. Those toys have changed a lot since I played with them. They are no longer small enough to swallow. I gave him the Little People Zoo for Christmas. He likes playing with all the sounds it makes. It seems like all toys make a lot of sounds now. It was cool to see Charlie have fun.

After that we played basketball with him. I know you are wondering how a two year old can play basketball. They have a Fisher Price grow with me basketball set. This is when he really started to warm up to me. After this we took a walk around the block. He let me push him in his tricycle and pick him up. Up to this point he was kind of skidish. It makes me wonder how involved in his life I would be if I still lived back there.

I spent most of the afternoon at Ruth's house. We had pizza for lunch. When Charlie went down for his nap, we worked on a scrapbook for Charlie. Alice said that the baby would not come until the scrapbook was done. It is just her way to motivate Ruth. It was a great way to spend a day.

While I was at Ruth's I talked with Sean on the Phone. I wish I had the chance to talk to him more often. He is in Germany and it is just hard to work out. I miss the closeness that we used to have.

    Dinner with an old friend

I got a message that an old friend of mine would be in town. I have not seen Bill O'Neill since our ten year reunion. He is one of those people who I have been able to keep in touch with from time to time, but I would not say we are closest friends. It is funny because Bill is very much the person I would have expected him to become. His mannerisms and ideas are right in line with the person he was in high school.

We ended up having dinner at Perkins. It just seemed like the right place to go. I can still remember what booth we sat in the night we split three pots of coffee. It was good because we were able to hang out without having to go back to our pasts too often. There is something satisfying about that.

After that we went out for drinks, free wings, and Monday Night Football at the Horsham Inn. Bill and I went with Gerry Deckert and John Coyle. It was a whole night just swapping storied. It is amazing what you can learn about people you have known most or your life. It was cool because three of us were on vacation. We were not worrying about where we have to be tomorrow morning. We got to live in the moment. We ended up closing out the bar. I never close out bars when I am in San Jose.

    Travel Notes 12/29/02

Tonight was the big family dinner for the trip. Mom likes to get everyone together on Sunday when I am home. It seems like the best day to get everyone together. It was a lot of fun. I gave the family some TiVo swag I bought. I wanted it to be like souvenirs.

It was cool because everyone was there. I love seeing my family interact. It reminds me that I am part of something larger the myself.

Charlie was the center of attention most of the night. That is to be expected. He is the only grandchild around most of the time. I can see why his aunts are always all over him. It makes me a little jealous. My sisters get to be a big part of his life. I am someone he has only seen a couple of times. I am not there while he is getting bigger. Everytime I come home I have to work up to holding him. It takes a few days before he will get close to me. That is the price I pay for living so far away.

After dinner I really felt jealous of my sisters. They seem very close. They get to see each other all the time. They all seem to have very adult relationships with each other.

  • Went out with Jeremy after dinner.
  • We hung out for 5 hours.
  • We both talked about what it would take for us to move back to Philadelphia.
  • We talked about everything from music to what we think of our web logs.
  • I paid Jeremy $60 to redesign Sad Salvation.
  • It is always cool to drive around Warminster.
  • I do not get to do this with Jeremy often enough.
