Stop Making Sense

The other day I received an e-mail that said:

Se você curte weblogs ou apenas quer saber por que uma marmita não dá pra dois, venha conhecer a minha sala de estar virtual e trocar uma idéia.

The problem is that I am a typical American and I only speak English. To look at this message I am not even sure what language it is in. When I go to bablefish and translate from Portuguese to English, this is what I get:

If you tan weblogs or only she wants to know why a metal pan does not give pra two, it comes to know my room to be virtual and to change an idea.

I am still not sure what that means. I am not even sure it is in Portuguese. I think it might be in Vietnamese, but I cannot find any free web translators that do Vietnamese. If you have any idea what this really says, please tell me.

Blogger Hates Me

I want to post these things, but Blogger is freaking out. I have no idea what is wrong. It just is not posting.

How do you get to me?

As part of one year of Sad Salvation I decided to do a Search-Search of my web site. These are the search terms that other people are using to find my web site. Some of these things are very strange to me. Some have become part of Sad Salvation. The collection says something about my web site, I am just not sure what. Tell me if you think you have an idea.

Can you write a novel in a month?

On Trishylichious live journal today I found a link to National Novel Writing Month. The idea is to write an idea in a month. I wonder if I could do something like that. Could I do it and still work a full time job? Could I do it and have any kind of social live? It is an interesting idea. What would 50,000 words from me in one month look like? There is only one way to find out.....

Zieguiet

Last week I walked into E's cube and asked if the Public Domain was dead or not. I was thinking about Mickey Mouse and Superman. How could Disney and AOL/Time Warner let those properties go into the Public Domain. Their time should be up eventually, but these characters are owned by powerful companies. We are becoming a country of Intellectual Properties. How in their right mind would let the Beatles songs go into the Public Domain.

Part of what is really the problem is technology. We are in that time in the world where we can save everything for ever. That was not true before. We are never going to hear Bach play, but in 200 years people will still be able to hear those old Beatles songs and see copies of Snow White.

It is not that I am against copyrights. I just think they are being abused by companies and people. I do not think just because you create something, you should be cashing in on it for the rest of your life. If it was up to me, I would make the copyright for everything a clean 50 years. I do not think it would discourage artists from making art. It would just force people to get there money while the iron is hot.

Today someone sent me a link to a news article about this very subject. The writer has the same ideas that I have. I also heard that the Supreme Court might be hearing a lawsuit about the "Sonny Bono" Copyright Term Extension Act. I guess this idea is just in the air. I am happy it is not just me thinking about these things.

Lost in the comic book store

I was in a comic book store on Saturday. It is the first time in months I have been in a comic book store. It is the first time I have thought about comics since I came home from the San Diego Comic Book Convention. I ended up buying copies of Reinventing Comics and Dark Knight 2 Issue 3. Dark Night 2 might be one of the biggest disappointments in the history of comics. I have to wonder what Frank Miller was thinking. This idea was not any good.

What struck me is that I was walking around that store for an hour and I had no idea what was worth reading. Everything I picked up seemed to be weaker then the next thing. There is something in my heart that loves comics. The pictures and ideas just pull me in. The problem is I have no way to tell what is worth my time. If you have any ideas please tell me. I would love to read something that brings me that special comic book joy.
